When officers arrived, they found the owner of the Kia still on the scene, confirming that no one had been behind the wheel when the vehicle began to roll.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How the vehicle moved<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails-organic\"><\/div>\n<p>Police said the male owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2025\/02\/kia-soul-and-seltos-owners-could-get-new-engine-in-latest-recall\/\">the Soul<\/a> was cooperative and explained that he believed he had shifted the vehicle into park before stepping away. Investigators noted that he may have forgotten to do so, or that the car could have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/2025\/01\/63000-jeep-cherokees-recalled-as-they-can-rollaway-or-lose-drive-power\/\">slipped out of gear<\/a> on its own and begun to roll. The incident underscores the value of engaging the parking brake whenever a vehicle is left unattended<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carscoops.com\/tag\/kia\/\">Kia<\/a> struck five women and one man. Five of the individuals were transported to local hospitals, three in serious but stable conditions and two in stable condition. Martello, who was a photographer at the event, the driver of the Kia ran after the car in a desperate attempt to stop it before it struck anyone.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I put the camera up to take a photo,&rdquo; he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtae.com\/article\/six-injured-after-empty-car-accidentally-rolls-into-crowd-at-community-festival-police-say\/65801991\">WTAE<\/a>. &ldquo;And next thing I know, I see the car coming up in lanes. I dropped the camera, and they were &hellip; it was already too late.
