- BC Highway Patrol says the driver missed out on a safe day at the track.
There are bad days, and then there are the kind of days where you have to explain to your mom that her Lamborghini is sitting in an impound lot. That’s the situation that a 26-year-old North Vancouver man now finds himself in. BC Highway Patrol says it caught him doing 130 kmh (80 mph) in an 80 kmh (49 mph) zone. Perhaps the craziest part is that he was on his way to a track day.

The incident happened back on June 1, but officers are only now sharing information about it. Around 1:15 p.m., officers spotted the driver in a grey Lamborghini Gallardo. Speeding at 40 kmh or more above the posted speed limit results in an automatic impound in British Columbia. The driver’s excuses didn’t slow down that swift justice either.
Track Day Turned Tow Day
“The driver said he was on his way to a racetrack. Had he driven more responsibly, he could have had a great day at the track. Instead, he had an awkward conversation with mom,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of BC Highway Patrol.
“Our first priority is to keep you and all road users safe,” he continued. “If that is not enough to slow you down, you may wish to consider whether you’re willing to light thousands of dollars of your own money on fire.”

He’s not kidding about that type of fine either. In addition to the seven-day seizure, the driver was slapped with a $368 excessive speed fine, a $109 ticket for not running a front plate, towing and storage costs, and three years of pricey “high-risk driver” insurance premiums.
A Costly Misstep
That pushes the total bill well north of $2,500 CAD, and that’s before calculating the cost of mom’s wrath. Hopefully, the driver realizes that this is ultimately just a $2,500 lesson in how quickly things can go sideways when you treat public roads like a warm-up lap.
